Pocas películas lo hacen de forma tan simple y radical, en este género, como la serie Living Architectures de Ila Beka y Louis Lemoine. El enfoque de Living Architectures busca oponerse a esa imagen establecida, para elegir al cotidiano, a la realidad como –valga la redundancia- la verdad. Escogiendo para esto cinco edificios, principalmente, de lo que los autores llaman los “Arquistars”: Richard Meier, Frank Gehry, Renzo Piano, Rem Koolhaas, y la oficina de Jacques Herzog & Pierre de Meuron.

Estos edificios, independiente de lo que las revistas nos muestran, no son sólo habitados o caracterizados por las formas vacías y llenas, la luz, su material, sus valores estéticos, su funcionalidad –que suponemos apropiada- o la evidencia clara de su buen diseño. Hay personas que viven en ellos, que los mantienen. Esto es habitualmente pasado por alto.

Despojar a la arquitectura premiada, mil veces fotografiada y registrada en croquis, lugares de peregrinación en muchos casos (como la casa Burdeos de este documental), removidos ahora del velo de lo sagrado, de la irreal perfección y del mito para mostrarnos sus detalles, sus imperfecciones, ¡se llueven!, las puertas no cierran muy bien, la escalera es quizás muy pequeña para subir con baldes y escobas, pero todo sin un prisma de maldad, sino que con la más pura honestidad.

Una visión documental que tiene además bastante humor (cortesía de Guadalupe, la nana que vive y mantiene la casa Burdeos diseñada por Rem Koolhaas), lo que se agradece y resta nuevamente a esa solemnidad impuesta por otros títulos.

El formato audiovisual

Con cámara en mano, múltiples seguimientos en plano secuencia, recorremos de forma fluída entre un piso y otro siguiendo a Guadalupe, que nos muestra su rutina diaria y establece observaciones sobre el edificio. Recorridos que permiten entender, de forma directa y en varios casos sin el artificio del montaje, como se conectan realmente los espacios y cuales son sus proporciones: puestos además a prueba por una mujer no muy delgada, hay que agregar.
Subjetividad

Como en la serie, todo esto los veremos a través de varias visiones excepto la de sus arquitectos. Estos quedan, con suerte, en los extras del DVD mirando los documentales: un poco impactados –pues estas películas se pueden interpretar como una visión no muy halagadora también – pero complacidos finalmente por la propuesta realista. Porque como dicen Beka & Lemoine: la arquitectura tiene una belleza vulnerable.

Visiones subjetivas, personales de los que realmente los conocen, los viven como dice el titulo de Living Architectures, día a día; quizás por años. ¿Quiénes viven en ellas y quienes las mantienen vivas?.

En muchos casos, expresiones sin filtro, aunque como en el caso de Guadalupe, la nana de este documental, quizás con un poco de miedo inicial a expresar su crítica expresa a la casa, porque después de todo como ella dice es solo su trabajo limpiarla: “no tengo por que criticar a mis empleadores, sus decisiones o gustos. Menos los del arquitecto, pero…”.

Koolhaas Houselife estrenado el año 2009, filmado en digital, división en capítulos por palabras, frases, hábitos y usos. Un retrato en 6 días, y a distintas horas del día, de la realidad.

Parque tematico Ferrari en Abu Dhabi

Ferrari inauguró en Octubre en Abu Dhabi el parque temático Mundo Ferrari, el cual es el parque bajo techo más grande del mundo. El parque se encuentra emplazado en el medio del circuito Yas Marina en de Abu Dhabi convirtiéndose así en paso obligado para todos aquellos que asisten al Gran Prix de Dubai.

Entre las principales atracciones del "Ferrari World", destaca una montaña rusa que promete ser la más rápida del mundo, y en donde a bordo de un vehículo de la marca se podrá alcanzar los 240 kilómetros por hora.

Además, habrá un simulador de Fuerza G, donde mediante una torre de 62 metros los fanáticos del vértigo podrán simular lo que siente un piloto al mando de un monoplaza del "cavallino rampante".



Entre los detalles que apuntan a cautivar fanáticos, el parque Ferrari ofrece un museo con autos de carrera clásicos y modernos. El Ferrari World será además la primera instalación de estas características que se encuentre íntegramente situada bajo techo, con una superficie de 20,000 metros cuadrados. Un escudo gigante de la marca italiana, de 65 x 48 metros, presidirá la parte superior de la cubierta del parque. Esta elegante cubierta roja está inspirado en la clásica doble curva de la carrocería del Ferrari GT. Toda la obra ha sido proyectada por el estudio de arquitectos de Jack Rouse.



Ferrari World está situado en Yas Island, en el Emirato Árabe de Abu Dhabi. Se encuentra a 10 minutos del aeropuerto internacional de Abu Dhabi, y a 30 minutos del centro de la ciudad. El Parque es propiedad de Aldar Properties PJSC, uno de las principales compañías de inversión de Abu Dhabi, mientras que será dirigido por Farah Leisure Parks Managements, una compañía internacional de administración y operación de instalaciones recreativas.

El grupo Megark Taller de Arquitectura y Diseño participara en el concurso internacional ARPAFIL 2010. El concurso este año lleva por nombre "LA CASA", en donde los participantes propondran una nueva conceptualizacion de lo que ha venido siendo el refugio y lugar mas preciado por la humanidad. Este concurso se lleva en el marco de la FIL (feria internacional del Libro ) en Guadalajara Mexico, en el mes de diciembre, reuniendo a jovenes arquitectos de todo el mundo, significando la mezcla de pensamientos y razonamientos. El conjunto de ideas y conociemientos acrecentan el valor de los trabajos y es asi como Megark trata de proponer aspectos y elementos novedosos al diseño arquitectonico. Orgullosamente Mexicanos todos los integrantes de este equipo sabemos que el trabajo colectivo es la clave para crecer.

Richard Hutten and MVRDV together win LAI award 2009 for The Why Factory

The new think tank The Why Factory at the Faculty of Architecture at the Delft University of Technology was awarded with the LAi prize 2009. The orange Tribune is designed by MVRDV and the flexible furniture by Dutch designer Richard Hutten. The Why Factory, an initiative of Delft University’s Faculty of Architecture and MVRDV, researches urban futures and is lead by Winy Maas.
After a fire destroyed their premises, The Why Factory and the faculty of architecture of Delft University moved into the former main building of the university. An interior courtyard was created and designated as the new residence of The Why Factory. MVRDV designed the three floor tall wooden structure, containing lecture halls, meeting rooms and the premises of the research institute. An auditorium stair climbs to the top, literally putting the students on top of their teachers.
The colours of the tribune and the furniture was decided by both Richard Hutten and MVRDV.
The structure distinguishes itself by its bright orange colour which clearly identifies The Why Factory as an independent research centre within the Faculty of Architecture, Delft University of Technology. Designer Richard Hutten designed flexible furniture to allow the space around the tribune to switch function between research hall, lecture hall and exhibition space.

Japanese Tori-Tori Restaurant | Rojkind Arquitectos + Esrawe Studio

Japanese Tori-Tori Restaurant in Mexico City by Mexico based architect firm Rojkind Arquitectos in collaboration with Esrawe Studio is now under construction. The building features the organic façade and landscape that become an extension of the restaurant to create a strong relationship between the inside and the outside.

Considered one of the best Japanese restaurants in Mexico City and due to its remarkable success, Tori-Tori is now moving to a bigger location in the same area of Polanco, Mexico City, where Architect Michel Rojkind and Industrial Designer Hector Esrawe teamed up to make it happen.

At the residential area in Polanco that has seen changes in its zoning, houses have been transformed to office spaces or restaurants. Sometimes things happen so unnoticeably, that just a small sign appears where a new space has been developed with a completely different program inside, while preserving its exterior.

Aware of this, Rojkind and Esrawe wanted to give enough strength to the new program that they proposed to transform the space inside out. Taking advantage of the plot’s conditions, the parking space will be left where it is, to use the budget mainly for restructuring and renovating the house, stripping the residential interior and removing all familiar features to produce an entirely different environment.

"We are being coherent with its culinary know-how and creating the accurate environment and situations for a gastronomical experience. The final result is achieved not only by working with the client but with his complete staff as well."

Synergetic Regionalism | William Alfredo Villalobos Fernàndez

Mixed Use Tower | Moho Architects

Mixed use tower in San Jose de Costa Rica, designed by Spanish firm Moho Architects which is currently in schematic design stage and is expected to be completed in 2012.

Rising above the skyline of San Jose in Costa Rica, this mixed use tower will be a new landmark, providing crucial amenities for the city, sheltered from the tropical local climate. The concept is driven by a progressive environmental strategy that is expected to establish new benchmarks for the region. Set right in front the Sabana Park, the new “Central Park” of the city, a recreational area in continuous construction development.

This building offers an ideal model of sustainable urban living by reducing reliance on transport and balancing energy consumption between its mixed-use program of day- and night-time activities. Program include mixed commercial and retail spaces together with a business centre, offices, conference rooms, hotel floors and Casino. The tower rises 25th floors above the city, At the top, a viewing platform and restaurant offer spectacular panoramic views over the city.

The tower splits and creases independently as it rises into the sky, creating both a sense of individuality and unity. This “head split” configuration, permits natural lighting, while sky courts filled with vegetation punctuate at intervals the tower and mitigate the hot climate.
The development will take advantage of a number of sustainable energy strategies and key to the energy performance of the building are its wooden brise-soleil facades, designed to filter solar gain and to encourage daylight to permeate the complex. The tower is intended to be a paradigm for passive environmental control, providing an alternative to the more conventional models of sealed and air-conditioned glass stumps. The layered facade cuts air-conditioning load and the plan encourages daylight, reducing the need for artificial lighting.
The project is currently in the schematic design phase and is expected to be completed in 2012.

La ciudad de Seúl, Corea desarrolló un concurso de diseño internacional por invitación bajo recomendación de varios expertos relacionados en la materia con el objetivo de que el concurso daría como resultado un proyecto de calidad impresionante, adicionalmente a mejorar el valor agregado y promover su reconocimiento mundial. Esto se logró al invitar arquitectos de renombre mundial con el fin de hacer la Plaza de Diseño y el Parque Dongdaemun una meca para la industria del diseño global y hacer de la ciudad de Seúl un hito.

Cubriendo un área de 83,000 m2 (incluyendo la plaza cultural subterránea), el proyecto Design Plaza estará equipado con espacios para exhibición multi-propósito y sala de convenciones, sala de exhibición, centro de información, centro educativo, archivo digital, museo y laboratorio de diseño, así como otras instalaciones diversas.

El proyecto Design Plaza será una meca global para el diseño creativo al organizar exhibiciones internacionales de diseño y conferencias, construir una red de diseñadores para la cooperación local y con el extranjero, y desarrollar varios programas de soporte para el diseño creativo y la mercadotecnia.Será sede de la industria de la moda de Dongdaemun al construir y operar una mapa de la moda y la mercadotecnia de soporte, producción y capacitación.Desarrollo de una plaza cultural subterránea.

El proyecto conectará el distrito de negocios dividido en sectores este y oeste con el área Heunginmun-ro justo enmedio a través del sótano para la integración total del área y al construir una red peatonal subterránea ligada a los pasos peatonales en Euljiro y las estaciones de las líneas del metro 2, 4 y 5, mejorando el ambiente peatonal a nivel de la calle. Conectando a la Plaza de Diseño y al Parque Dongdaemun estructuralmente y funcionalmente, la plaza cultural subterránea servirá como un sitio destacado para las diversas actividades culturales incluyendo exhibiciones y presentaciones artísticas.

Nestlé Application Group Querétaro | Rojkind Arquitectos

The work that Rojkind Arquitectos has completed for another pair in Nestlé factories can be signed on this streak. Starting from the hallway to its chocolate factory located on the outsides of Toluca, near Mexico City: a structure made out of faceted planes attached to the existent factory that works as a Museum that still has Phase 2 to develope. The second assignment, on the industrial zone of Querétaro, a Laboratory building which´s main objetives are: To be the open inovation example for Nestlé and the rig driver for Nestlé Mexico through continuous consumer, client and business relevant innovation for flexible manufacturing, to be the packaging competence centre and innovation drive for Nestle Mexico, and to operate as a satellite to PTC Marsyville to become the centre of competence in liquid beverages in Latin America.

In addition to the relation with existing industrial structures, this new commission involved an extra challenge. In 1996 UNESCO declared the historic center of Queretaro World Heritage Site, which had unforeseen effects even in the industrial periphery: the new building had to be an arched portico –tradition oblige. Rojkind faced this issue reinterpreting both the arch and the portico. If an arch is a still fragment of a dome or –what is the same– a dome is an amplified arch turning over its own axis, doesn’t matter: a dome can fulfill the demand for an arch without falling back on clichés. In this case, a series of intersected domes, multiplied as a foam, form the matrix of an open and continuous space –the portico– which expands while another space, formed by simple boxes cladded in a satin finish reflective glass , contains the expansion of spheres –which in turn extrudes– and houses the laboratory program.
While the apparently metallic and impregnable exteriors are opaque, the interiors of these boxes, painted in different colors, have an almost theatrical quality: in their white working coats, researches float in a continuous blue, yellow or green, cut out against a contrasting color. Sometimes, when one of the exterior panels reveals itself as a window, these interiors can be guessed from the outside.
Maybe elsewhere this project would have been built using sophisticated technologies for the customized production of specific parts according to the complex geometry of the spheres. Here, this geometry had to be translated from formal and spatial logics into a simple, almost colloquial constructive logic, which allowed local construction builders to build the foamy space by means of the physical intersection of semi-spherical domes assembled with arches and rings of steel rods.

The final result is a series of unified contrast: metallic, glossy exterior, with and against brilliant, colorful interiors, the abstract planes of the exterior boxes, with and against the exuberance of the connected spheres. It may be that the strength of this project results from this play of opposites that, in a dynamic way and depending on the observer position, can be dominant in a moment and discrete the next one. Industrial building recovers that way, re-thought and reloaded, part of that which itself gave once to architecture: clarity and force.

PROYECTO PARA PABELLÓN DE SINGAPUR : NUBE PIXELADA

El estudio de arquitectura Design Act con sede en la ciudad de Singapur fue finalista en el concurso para el Desarrollo del Proyecto del Pabellón para Singapur de la Expo Shangai 2010 organizado por el Consejo de Turismo de Singapur.

Bajo el título "MI SUEÑO, NUESTRA VISIÓN (MY DREAM, OUR VISION)", el proyecto de Design Act utiliza cubos desfasados para generar una escultura espectacular que es visualmente impactante y evocadora.El pabellón esta realizado a base de una nube digital iluminada flotando sobre un siempre cambiante pasto "verde". Invita a ingresar a un espacio subterráneo oscuro con sonidos de fondo que evocan a los servicios urbanos que sirven a la ciudad, y que te catapultan dentro de una nube blanca y brillante, dónde se exhorta a los visitantes a publicar sus suseños. Realizado de 3866 cubos de tamaños modulares con diferentes niveles de transparencia, el pabellón está estratégicamente inclinado hacia la base para permitir a los visitantes la experiencia del ritual de convertir sus sueños en realidad.

El Pabellón de Singapur para la Exposición Mundial Shangai 2010 impulsado para presentar a Singapur como el perfecto ejemplo de una ciudad que mantiene todas las posibilidades de transformar la vida de aquellos quienes entran en contacto con ella. El objetivo del Pabellón es el de ofrecer a la ciudad de Singapur como una ciudad de posibilidades y una ciudad de sueños y visiones. Y tanto como pueda transformar las vidas, sueños y visiones puede incorporar la idea de posibilidades en la medida de las vidas que transforma.El Pabellón muestra los ángulos de una Ciudad que es continuamente impulsada por los cambios progresivos. Este parteaguas de múltiples lenguajes y culturas que también es representativo del espíritu de Singapur: E incluye el lado humano, su pulso y emoción, logros y oportunidades de la ciudad de Singapur.

Art Museum Strongoli | Coop Himmelb(l)au

Austrian architects Coop Himmelb(l)au always give a very good impression to me in every design, this time, the new Art Museum Strongoli in Calabria, by Coop Himmelb(l)au, is the third project in Italy. The art museum is situated on the top of the ‘Motta Grande’ hill overlooking the city, featuring a very long cantilever terrace offering a panoramic view facing the sea.

"The new Art Museum Strongoli in Calabria is the third COOP HIMMELB(L)AU project in Italy. The museum is not only a cultural center but also understood as a generator for a future development of Calabria, a place for cultural entertainment and recreation."

The Art Museum is situated on the top of the “Motta Grande” hill in front of the city, visible from far away. The new museum houses not only flexible exhibition spaces, but also a small “multi-hall” and a panorama restaurant.

The project is a composition of three main elements: the emblematic, cone-shaped construction with the entrance is orientated towards the city, while the cantilevering restaurant at the opposite end of the building offers a panoramic terrace facing the sea in the east. Both public attractors are linked by a two-storey exhibition volume.

The exhibition areas are determined to be as flexible as possible, supported by underground service facilities accessed via two elevators. The multi-hall can be used as temporary exhibition space, lecture hall, auditorium and cinema or simply as an extension space of the foyer for public events."

Helix Hotel | Leeser Architecture

This is the invited competition project won by New York practice Leeser Architecture - Helix Hotel. The five-star luxury hotel in the Zayed Bay in Abu Dhabi, featuring an iconic design and state of the art technology that creating dynamic mini-city in the UAE.

Leeser Architecture, an internationally recognized design firm, has won a invited competition for a five-star luxury hotel in the Zayed Bay in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Called the Helix Hotel for its staggered floor plates, it rests in the bay, partially floating in the water and adjacent to the serpentine Sheik Zayed Bridge currently under construction by designer Zaha Hadid.
